You and your wife have already made progress toward achieving your health goals by reaching out for help. While the Guard does not offer one-on-one counsel, there are other resources to help you quickly and easily create an individual weight loss and exercise plan. The resources below will help you get started.
Individual Coaching Resources
Military OneSource Health and Wellness Coaching Program is a free resource that offers real-time online or phone-based coaching for weight management, fitness and nutrition, health condition management, and stress management. The coach won’t tell you what to do or how to do it, but they will help you use your strengths to create your own solutions, support you with your plan, and provide you with encouragement and accountability to help attain your health goals. Register for a coach by calling 1-800-342-9647.
For activated Soldiers (those within six months of deployment, currently deployed, or who returned from deployment within the last six months), free fitness training sessions and gym memberships are available through the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition [PDF 159KB]. If you’re eligible, you can take advantage of this program to help balance your weight loss and exercise goals.
There are several free, online resources available to help you develop personalized plans, track your progress, and receive tips to effectively reach your weight and health goals.
USDA’s MyPlate SuperTracker will help you build a customized nutrition and physical activity plan, track foods and activities, monitor progress, and personalize your plan with goal setting, virtual coaching, and journaling.
